    Timber Hills Lake Hunting & Fishing Adventures welcomes the outdoor enthusiast to visit the ultimate outdoor experience. Just over an hour from the Kansas City metro, only the highest quality facilities are offered. Our diverse and flexible outdoor Paradise offers a Corporate retreat with peace and quiet as well as a family friendly fun place to enjoy for a weekend or a vacation. Many weddings have enjoyed our grounds and picturesque views in every direction. Timber Hills Lake was named Monster Buck Territory of Bourbon County Kansas by the Bourbon County Commissioners.

    Pontoon boats, canoes and kayaks are available for your enjoyment on our big lake. The smaller lake has a beach front perfect for relaxing in the sun or swimming.

    Our guides will take you and your family on a guided tour of the grounds. They will talk to you about the wagon train roads that are on the property and you can enjoy seeing the civil war walls and old homesteads. We can take you on a late night animal sighting trip where you can spotlight animals at night in the wild. There are many trips available depending on your family's desires.     If you are booking Big Game Hunt a deposit of $2,500 is required at time of reservation. All packages not cancelled within 60 days of your scheduled hunt will result in forfeit of 100% of your deposit. All packages cancelled prior to 60 days of your scheduled hunt will have a 10% processing fee charged and taken out of your deposit. If a member of your party does not show for the hunt, the $2,500 deposit is forfeited. When booking a Turkey, and/or, Waterfowl hunt, 100% of your balance must be paid in full at time of reservation. This payment is non-refundable.


    Kansas Hunting License (Resident and Nonresident Hunting License required for Free Range Hunting) a Timber Hills Hunting / Fishing Permit included in package. It is the responsibility of the hunter to obtain the proper permits and licenses. All of the hunting permits and licenses are available for purchase on-line.     Anyone born on or after July 1, 1957 must have completed a certified hunter safety course to hunt wild birds in Kansas. Please visit the KDWP home page for further information.
  • Fish For Free With Cabin Rental!

    Lots of fish have been caught at Timber Hills. We have had two fishing tournaments.

    The list would include:
    • 6-9 lb Largemouth Bass
    • 16-18" Crappie
    • 1-10 lb Trout, Wipers, and Small Mouth Bass
    • 8-10 lb Catfish
    With a whole lot of adventure, fun, and excitement, in between... or actually on the end of someone's line. It should and could be you!
  • Fishing Adventures Year-round

    Our largest lake is 40 acres and we have 12 additional lakes and ponds on our private property. These are stocked with Bass, Crappie, Bluegill, and Catfish. Our lake viewed from our cabin decks is stocked with 2-8 pound Rainbow and Golden Trout. Come and fill the thrill as your line sings out of the reel, and your rod bows while landing a really big one. Make sure you bring your camera, because you'll need "photo proof" for the fish stories you'll catch at Timber Hills lake.
    Fishing is free with an overnight cabin or lodge stay. Full Day, 1 adult (children under 10 are free) $50. You can rent one of our "Hotwoods" Fishing and Trolling Pontoons for $50 per day. 2 Adults Weekend Package(children under ten are free), 3 days with two nights in our comfortable cabins, $250. +125 per day for a guide and picnic lunch.
  • Fishing

    Things to Know:

    * Our ponds are subject to the state fishing regulations. However we do set our own limits. You will be briefed what those pending limits are for each pond.
    * Rooms are available to be booked if needed.
    * Please be aware that the property has wild animals, you must be alert at all times.
    * Daily take home limit not to exceed 10 fish. Limit and Catch & Release Guidelines are posted at Lodge.
    * On Timber Hills property no license is required - when on Free Range Property permits and licenses are not included. It is the responsibility of the fisherman to obtain the proper permits and licenses. Most permits and licenses are available for purchase on-line. Please go to the Kansas Wildlife and Parks Website for further details.

    What to Bring:

    * Kansas Fishing License (Required for Free Range Fishing) On Timber Hills property Fishing Permit included in package.

    Cancellation Policy

    100% of balance is due 15 days prior to your scheduled arrival. If you notify us that you are canceling your reservation at least ten days prior to your scheduled arrival, your deposit will be refunded, less a $50.00 cancellation fee. If cancellation is made within ten days of your scheduled arrival, your deposit will not be refunded. No-shows will be charged the full amount.
  • Hiking

    Follow trails through the woods while wildlife surrounds your every move. Explore Civil War era rock walls and search for Native American arrow heads and tools used by local tribes. Explore old homesteads that our fore fathers lived in and farmed. Take a picnic lunch and enjoy an overlook spot or find an opening in the forest or on a lakeside and have a family picnic in nature's beauty.
  • Photography

    If you are looking for nature shots you will not find a better place than Timber Hills Lake. The oak/hickory decidous forests of the Ozark Highlands blend with remants of short and long grass prairies and are filled with wild flowers, animals and plants. Civil War era rock walls roll for miles and old Wild West homestead sites still stand throughout the grounds. A stone bridge from the wagon train days is still intact.
    The wildlife is abundant. Buffalo, Giant Elk and world class Whitetail Deer in velvet antlers most of the summer roam the property.
    You may see coyotes and bobcats with their pups and cubs, birds of the wild and much, much more. The lake and ponds are full of wildlife shots. Spend days in the wild and the photos will be family treasures you will remember for the rest of your life.
  • Cabins

    Book one of our lodges for a business meeting, party or family gathering. We also have cabins for a private stay for your group, or share the spaces with fellow travelers. All of our cabins are centrally located on the property and perfect for small to large groups or families looking for time away. Each cabin is designed to provide comfortable sleeping quarters for up to four guests, and have a kitchenette. Arrange for meals to be prepared for you, or bring and cook your own food. Barbeque grills can be provided for minimal charge. Please call 620-743-4114 to discuss the possibilities and available dates.

  • About Timber Hills Lake Ranch

    Timber Hills Lake Ranch is nestled in Southeast Kansas on hills and valley's covered with hard wood trees, there are natural springs bubbling from the ground. THLR has so much history on site things like the original county line road that winds through the timber crossing a stone bridge from the 1800s and leading up through the forest to stone trading post ruins. Along with all of the History on the grounds THLR also has wildlife where one can experience the outdoor adventures of a lifetime.

    It sits in Bourbon County just outside of Mapleton, Kansas, in Timber Hills Township. That's the very place where John Gunthre was hung in the 1800s as an innocent man. His hanging spot can still be seen and is named Gunthre's Mound as explained in the history books.

    The byway going south from Kansas City leading to THLR is filled with history sites like the second largest ground battle in Civil War history. Called Mine Creek Battlefield, this historical site sits a few miles off of 69 highway. History and sight seeing for individuals or groups to enjoy will be within 30 minutes North and South of THLR. Some of the most amazing and surprising civil war history sights in Kansas are now yours to enjoy.

    Timber Hills Lake Ranch has accommodations to fit almost anyone's needs. Corporate outings, Weddings, Team Building, Family reunions and vacations and adventures are all offered.
